Last night, I finished Flora’s Dare: How a Girl of Spirit Gambles All to Expand Her Vocabulary, Confront a Bouncing Boy Terror, and Try to Save Califa from a Shaky Doom (Despite Being Confined to Her Room), which I enjoyed a lot, though I am not sure how I feel about click for spoilers!

Last night, I stayed up very very late reading Flora Segunda: Being the Magickal Mishaps of a Girl of Spirit, Her Glass-Gazing Sidekick, Two Ominous Butlers (One Blue), a House with Eleven Thousand Rooms, and a Red Dog by Ysabeau S. Wilce.

I enjoyed it very much – Flora is a fun heroine, easy to root for, and I liked Udo, her fashion-conscious sidekick, quite a bit as well. And I really liked the wordplay – it can be a little cutesy at times, but I thought it was clever and amusing as a whole – and I also liked the world Wilce has set up, some sort of AU California where the Aztecs are still in power to the south, and Califa is a small client state trying to stay free. There are pirates and magic, kilts and really fancy hats.

I have a self-imposed moratorium on book-buying, at least until I get a new job, but I might have to make an exception for the sequel.
