it’s a nuclear show

I finally finished reading The Great Mortality: An Intimate History of the Black Death, the Most Devastating Plague of All Time by John Kelly on the train this afternoon. I really liked it. I thought the way Kelly used primary sources gave it an immediate, visceral quality, and brought what really is a foreign era to life. It made for a compelling narrative instead of a dry recitation of facts.

Now it’s on to America’s Forgotten Pandemic: The Influenza of 1918 (new edition), which, as some of you may know, is my personal favorite pandemic. Um. If you didn’t know, then yes, I am the kind of person who has a favorite pandemic, and it’s the flu of 1918. I also love non-fiction about virii, even though they freak me the fuck out. Possibly because they freak me out? I don’t even know.
